Progress and Frustration

When you go on holiday during the demolition phase, you have to expect to come home to a big mess.

And here it is.

But thats progress, isnt it?

All the asbestos is out. The contractor found another 150Meters of pipe lagging actually hidden in the walls, so there is the first of the increases in cost that you just never expect when you do a property renovation. Or did you? Of course you did. I wonder what the next one will be?

Do you remember me saying at the start of our holiday that I had signed lots of forms and written checks?

Well after our departure, it became clear that there was no benefit in applying for a demolition permit on its own, and we would be better served by filing the full planning application. So what did that mean? Yes, all those forms I signed and had notarized were unnecessary, and the checks I wrote were too small!

So last week we did it all over again. The full application has now been filed and we have to sit and wait for approval, we hope. Apart from some tidying up, there is little to do for the next six weeks!
