Now This is Real Progress
We may have waited a while and had all sorts of practical problems getting these panels , but now they are here, look what happens in a few days. There is another wall in place that you cannot see here. We now move up onto the fifth floor, which will be fun, as we have nine of these 12.5M (41foot) beams that each take six men to lift that not only have to be moved out of the way to put up the walls, but then have to be lifted up onto the walls. Meanwhile we have to keep the place protected from the rain!
Just to show you the crane that lifted the beams and walls up onto the fourth floor. I have to say that, as this is the first time I have been involved in a building job that involved a crane of this sort, it was thrilling to see it, and to watch the skill of the operator maneuver between the branches of the tree without damaging anything.
And to my surprise and relief, the panels have all fitted together and into the space without any major surgery needed. I am looking forward to seeing the fifth floor take shape.
On Sunday we have an open day for people interested in Passive House. At this point we have not completed any of the major elements required for Passive House, but the people will certainly be able to see the mistakes we have made that have yet to be corrected, and the difficult technical issues we are grappling with. Maybe someone will come along with a brilliant idea for doing this at no cost. Lets all hope.
